Presence dance is a slow and deep bodily journey that takes place with headphones and blindfolds. It creates a safe space where attention can move from the outside world inward – into the body, breathing, feelings and movement.
The dance flows in a very slow rhythm to learn to slow down, come to the present and notice what is really happening inside us. Through slowness we begin to perceive how we breathe, how we move, what we feel in our body and how we react to different impulses.
The practice invites us to explore:
Do I allow myself to move freely or do I control myself?
Do I let my body lead me or do I try to direct everything with my head?
Do I allow the movement to be born from within or do I try to be somehow “right”?
During the hour-long dance journey, the connection with the body deepens. The body becomes present, freer and more sensitive. Often there is a pleasant tingling, expansion, softening and a feeling of being truly present in my body.
This practice is not a performance or a dance skill. It is an encounter with oneself through slowness, breathing, movement and presence.
